A PARENT’S JOB
by Alexa Oliva
You can have a baby and think you’re a parent, but being a good, responsible and loving parent takes a lot more.
Being a real parent takes patience, it takes kindness, it takes understanding and it takes support.
If you are the kind to think you have to love your parents because they are yours I have a message for you. If they want respect, kindness, time they must give it to you.
The best parents do not spring demands on you or force their beliefs on you. The best parents do not do something one day and the next pretend they did not do anything wrong. The best parents are always there for you no matter what. They put you above everything, above anything and before anyone. And if needed can apologize. Yes they are not always right.
A good parent requires you to wipe your children’s tears not create them. It requires you to try to mentor them not embarrass them. It requires you to show them how proud you are of them for even the little things, not show off.
I am proud to say my parents exemplify every wonderful thing I have said here. I love you mom and dad and I am proud to tell the world and let them know what real parents should be like. Not perfect but always on my side.
