THE LAST MINUTE

by Bert Oliva

Why do we wait to the last minute to do things? Why do we get nervous and wait for the perfect time and it never comes?

STOP! No need to wait. The time is now. Don’t do it to yourself anymore. We wait and panic until the last minute. We should take action now.

The sad thing is that most people will use “The Last Minute” as an excuse to not do it at all. Sometimes all we have is NOW. So stop waiting and just do it.

PowerTools™
1) Take a deep breath and just do what you have been avoiding.

2) Don’t be embarrassed to ask for help. You will be surprised how many people love to help.

3) Tell people what it is that you must do and give it a deadline. People will hold you accountable.

I’m not going to tell you it becomes easier with time. However it feels great when it’s completed on time. Don’t wait…

GET IT DONE

by Alexa Oliva

On the days when there is a plan I like to get it done and then get on with my day. I have been with people that have massive ADD and start a project and get sidetracked by a mosquito and then a 1-hour project takes 5 hours to finish. I do not know about you, but this frustrates me.

I like to get it done and then have fun. Not have fun every 10 minutes and prolong the completion. These people miss deadlines and make people wait. It is very inconsiderate.

Procrastination takes form in many behaviors, control, and lacking making decisions. Procrastinators tend to file their taxes late, drink more than others, file everything under “it may not be so important.” For procrastinators, not doing it, means immediate gratification instead of looking for the bigger goals.

Solution for this might be to write down every time you feel the urge to procrastinate coming on. Then you can see what triggers you. Just don’t be lazy if you really want the fix. Another solution might be to break down the big goal into little ones and start on one little one. Then one last fix might be to motivate yourself throughout the process. Focus on the end goal and how that will make you feel.

I think this is where I like to be in the end zone celebrating. That’s why I do things now to get there faster.

MEMORY LANE

by Eric Munter

Almost ten months to the day, I finally ended a streak. It was September 5th of 2012 when I said good-bye to my childhood home. I have made a consorted effort not to go anywhere near the are for the past ten months. But today, July 6th, I finally decided I was ready to visit the neighborhood that had been my home for twenty years.

And you know what? It was – it was relatively unremarkable. About two miles out, I was getting teary eyed, but then as a I turned down the street that led to my former home I felt a strange peace. Peace knowing that what was, was and what is is. I’m not sure if that makes any sense and I’m not sure if I’ve actually made sense of what I experienced today.

All I know is I was able to successfully go and “see” my old home and realize that it is nothing more than a structure. The memories I have which I thought were attached to the cement, wood and other building materials aren’t there. They are in my heart, mind and soul. I carry them with me every day of my life and I don’t need to see the house in order to relive them. I realized this today – and for that, I am thankful.

RUNNING

by Val Leichtman

I pump my arms. I kick my legs. My heart pounds painfully in my chest. I inhale and exhale too quickly to catch my breath. Everything around me is a blur of blue and green and black. I close my eyes and keep running anyway.
——
Running away is the easiest thing to do and it’s one of my most common desires. I get uncomfortable often and my first reaction is to just shut down and get away from the uncomfortable situation. The problem is that this instinct of mine keeps me from being able to grow. It’s my own worst enemy. Instead of facing what’s bothering me and learning from it, I shut down or turn away from it. It may be a safe answer to a problem, but it’s also a coward’s answer.

Today, I woke up uncomfortable. I felt irritated and annoyed and I just wanted to run away. But I’m tired of just leaving when things get too tough for me. So, today, I’m working on sitting instead of running. I’m still not ready to confront the uncomfortable situation head-on, but at least I’m able to catch my breath and take a moment to look around. Taking this moment will give me time to figure out exactly why I’m feeling the way I’m feeling.
If I’m always running, I’ll never figure out how to just sit and enjoy the scenery.

by Bert Oliva

I knew this title would get your attention. No, I’m not the Guru. However I have been involved with personal development for over 21 years now and I have no plans of stopping. I have been asked before, “What makes you the expert? What makes you think you have all the answers?” I don’t!

I will however tell you what I do bring to the table of self-development. I have shared the stage with the best of the world. And I have dedicated my like to studying human potential. Humanology, what I teach, is the scientific study of human potential. I truly believe we all have greatness inside of us. However the only person that stops us from achieving it is us… think about it.Most of us die without ever tapping into our greatness.

I give my tools and teachings for the world to see. If I’m able to change your life in a positive way, then I am on the right path. My experience and passion lies in helping people find their true potential and guiding them in not wasting their life away by living their lives to the fullest.

I give PowerTools™ in my blogs. And PowerQuestions™ in my social media. I get you to interact in life and stop sitting by the side lines.

You can call me whatever you want. I will never give up on you. And I believe in you and your dreams. I’m on your team.

I THINK I’M SMART

by Alexa Oliva

I think I’m smart but I’m not. I look for solutions always for any challenge or situation I come across. Everyone knows this about me, so when it comes down to getting anything done who does everyone turn to? Problem is I’m not lazy and I like getting things done, it makes me feel good.

But everyone knows that so first roadblock, question or problem instead of trying to solve it, they turn to me. Sometimes I don’t want to do anything, think of anything, make anything not even any decisions including what we’re going to eat. Even when I’m sick or not feeling well or even busy, it feels like I don’t get a break.

It’s just being considerate means you put yourself in others’ shoes. What would you do if you had to make that choice or react to a certain situation? Maybe start slow and do a few little things for that person and then build up from there.

REDUX

by Eric Munter

Have you ever done something that was subpar? How do you make up for it? You can’t go back in time and correct it. You can only learn from it – and either chose to grow or wither.

That is what happened with a recent blog I wrote. I had an idea that did not pan out. In all honesty, it sucked. How do you deal with this? How do you deal with disappointment? You move on. You learn. You improve. You vow not to let your team, your readers and, most importantly, yourself down.

At the end of the day, the person that should be your biggest critic is you – and I am extremely disappointed in me for having not put forth my greatest effort into my work.

I strive to live up to my heightened (and at times, incredibly lofty) expectations, and when I fail to live up to even them, I embarrass myself and worse, those which I wish to be associated with.

My greatest and most sincere apologies.
