WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE?

by Eric Munter

This must be one of the most commonly asked questions a child faces as they grow up. At first, grandma, grandpa, relatives and friends will gush over the baby of a parent and eventually ask, “So, what do you want little Oswald or little Mildred to be?” I guess technically, the first question these people should be asking the parents is, “Why in the world did you name your child Oswald or Mildred?” (No offense to those of you who named or plan to name your child as such – but I beg that you please reconsider).

Later on in the child’s life when they can speak and are in school, they will field this question themselves. “What do you want to be when you grow up, Ozzie? Miley, have you considered what you will do in the future?” (Oswald and Mildred have of course grown up to despise their names as I predicted, and they demand to be called by their self-enforced nicknames).

Ozzie and Miley know exactly what they want to be when they grow up. Oswald wants to and becomes a lawyer (but sadly this will cost him his “Ozzie” nickname, and he will henceforth be known as Oswald Reagan Kensington IV because it sounds more “lawyery”). Miley wants to and becomes an actress (and changes her name for a third time to stage name Macy Furlap because her birth-name is already registered with the S.G.A. – the Screen Actor’s Guild).

Oswald and Mildred are lucky. They have known what they’ve wanted to be their entire lives. When growing up, I was asked the same question they were asked hundreds of times. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I answered this question hundreds of times and probably gave dozens of different answers over the years.

“I want to be a writer.”

“I want to be a teacher.”

“I want to be an actor.”

“I want to be a priest.” (Fortunately, this ambition passed – no offense to those in the priesthood.)

“I want to play in the NHL.”

“I want to be an architect.”

I’m now twenty-nine years old and if you were to ask me what I want to be – I honestly don’t know what I’d tell you. I have dozens of different things that I am extremely interested in pursuing, and have been lucky to pursue several of them to various degrees. But to only pick one? I get antsy and want to try something new after doing the same thing for a period of time. Is this just a lack of focus, or is it simply I haven’t found the one thing in life I love to do and want to do until the day I die – the thing to which I can finally answer the question, “What do you want to be?”

NOSTALGIC

by Alexa Oliva

Today I felt a bit nostalgic starting my day thinking of my mother-in-law. I have not been able to take her off my mind. I guess cause soon it will be 6 months since she passed. I have felt so shaken at the core of my existence. I feel changed forever. It has made me into such a different person. I look at life so differently and having looked at death in the eyes I no longer feel scared of life, just scared to hurt my family.

Today though I also realized that I married my best friend. And the only person that I can not live my life without. I believe her death has brought us closer than ever and I feel his love more now as well. I promised her I would take care if him till I die and I will.

Thank you Victoria for teaching me so much, for being my friend, my mentor and my family. I will always love you for who you were and for giving me the love of my life.

EYES WIDE SHUT

by Bert Oliva

As I sit here in total darkness, my mind starts to talk. What is it my little voice saying? A lot, if I just take a moment to listen.

I believe that most of our answers are inside of us. We seem to always be looking on the outside for answers. However, if we just sit down in total darkness, our answers will come to us.

And once we open your eyes again, truly then will we start to live.

Example:
How many times have you thought of a person you have not seen or talked to in a long time and then they show up in your life?

What about when you have a thought of person, place or thing and then and only then you start to see signs reminding you of them or it?

I can go on with more examples . . . but you get the idea.

All I’m saying to you is WAKE UP. Wake up now! Open your beautiful heart and soul and you will start to live. Stop looking on the outside and look within. Live the life you were truly meant to live.

Live Life,
Bert Oliva

BREEDING SUCCESS

by Alexa Oliva

I think that success comes with certain rules after meeting so many successful people in my life and asking questions and truly looking at the formula of success carefully.

Here is what my research tells me:

1) You have to start the day early, this helps you eliminate the tedious stuff without getting sidetracked by the people in your office.
2) You can not threaten inspiration, you have to inspire people with love and honesty.
3) You have to set an example. Saying you’re good doesn’t register in peoples minds, they need proof.
4) You have to have systems in place too support all the efforts made, when things slip through the cracks so does your money.
5) You have to have a good team set up, this might be the hardest thing in the world.
6) You have to stop the excuses for not getting things done. Where are you priorities, yes you have to look good and feel good but it can not be at the top of the food chain to attain the success you want.
7) You have to be passionate about what you are doing. You can’t like it, be okay with it, you have to live, breathe, eat and sleep what you love.

Of course there are many more rules but these stick out to me the most.

These are the attributes that you can find in MOST of the successful people on TV, magazines, heads of corporations, etc.

Good luck to you all that can get these things done.

And give me a call anytime.

Cause everyone should know “money doesn’t sleep.”
