ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER

by Bert Oliva

Do you know someone who tells you “I love you” all the time? Someone that says “You’re my everything. You mean the world to me…”?

However this same person says one thing and does another. They seem to never be there when you need them. They are always too busy to deal with your needs at the moment.

Why is that?

In my years of studying human potential I have realized that words are easy to say. Now when it comes to action, that is another story. Actions speak louder than words.

Make the effort of doing, not saying so much. Go out and show your love. Show people you really do care by your actions not just your words.

Believe you me, it easier said than done. But you will see the results and your life will change dramatically.

PowerTools:

1) Go out of your way and get a gift for that person. A special gift. (You don’t need money. Sometimes a single flower will show more than words.)

2) Write a letter or a special note. And read it to them before you give it to them.

3) Hug them for 30 second for an entire week. (Thirty seconds in a hug seems like a lifetime.)

NOTE: Most people will think you’ve lost your mind… As you know “crazy people succeed!”

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT MONDAYS

by Eric Munter

There’s an unfair stigma that the first day of the week bears. If you’ve ever seen the movie Office Space, odds are you familiar with the quote, “Looks like someone has a case of the Monday’s!” In the movie, having a case of the Monday’s is considered a bad thing because Monday’s are considered the evilest of days of each week. But why?

Why can’t you look at Monday as a positive? Sure, your awesome weekend may be behind you and that may make you sad. Sure, you may have a job which isn’t your dream job. Or sure, you may just hate the day because “that’s the thing to do,” but why not look at Monday as an opportunity?

Every Monday is a clean slate, the first day of a new week – a new beginning. How often do we hear people say they wish they had a clean slate to work from? That is what Monday is. It is a day for you to realize the immense possibilities the week may hold – if only you seize the day and embrace it as a new beginning, work as hard as you can for what you believe in to propel you onward into Tuesday (and the rest of the week) with the momentum you need to achieve what you desire most.

BREEDING SUCCESS

by Alexa Oliva

I think that success comes with certain rules after meeting so many successful people in my life and asking questions and truly looking at the formula of success carefully.

Here is what my research tells me:

1) You have to start the day early, this helps you eliminate the tedious stuff without getting sidetracked by the people in your office.
2) You can not threaten inspiration, you have to inspire people with love and honesty.
3) You have to set an example. Saying you’re good doesn’t register in peoples minds, they need proof.
4) You have to have systems in place too support all the efforts made, when things slip through the cracks so does your money.
5) You have to have a good team set up, this might be the hardest thing in the world.
6) You have to stop the excuses for not getting things done. Where are you priorities, yes you have to look good and feel good but it can not be at the top of the food chain to attain the success you want.
7) You have to be passionate about what you are doing. You can’t like it, be okay with it, you have to live, breathe, eat and sleep what you love.

Of course there are many more rules but these stick out to me the most.

These are the attributes that you can find in MOST of the successful people on TV, magazines, heads of corporations, etc.

Good luck to you all that can get these things done.

And give me a call anytime.

Cause everyone should know “money doesn’t sleep.”

THE BOX

by Val Leichtman

The large, wooden box sits on top of the table. I run my fingers over the address label. It was shipped from my late grandfather’s estate. Maybe it’s his old belt. The time he beat me with it till I bled comes flashing back. I shake my head, clearing the memory and willing the phantom stinging on my back away.Or maybe it’s the big dictionary I had to copy out of when I was bad. His green eyes stare at me angrily. I jump back from the box before I can help it. My heart pounding in my ears, I move back toward the box. I swallow, but the lump in my throat just grows. I stand up straight and rip open the box like tearing off a bandaid.

Inside, was my father’s old, tattered Teddy bear.

___

Fear is a funny thing. When I let myself stew in it, I can make monsters out of Teddy bears. One of the things I often hear at BOWAworld is “FEAR is False Expectations Appearing Real.” That really is a very valid statement for me. I am only afraid of the unknown: how that meeting is going to go, how I’m going to perform on my project, what So-In-So might think of me.

Fear for me only exists before I know the facts, before I experience the situation. And, the funny thing is, usually my fear is much worse than what the actual outcome is. So, the next time I feel fear biting at my heels, I’m just going to go ahead and open the box.

BEING HONEST WITH YOURSELF

by Bert Oliva

What does it takes to be truly honest with ourselves? Now this is an interesting topic…

Some people lie to themselves to the point that they start believing their own lies. And for some, their lies even become reality.

Why do people lie to themselves? One of the main reasons people do this is because they don’t want to hurt those that they love. However, by the time they realize it, not only did they hurt the people they love but they themselves are also hurt. Another main reason is trying to please the world. No matter what, in the end, the world will never be pleased and the people who try to please it will not be happy.

To be honest with oneself is not an easy thing to do. Most people don’t know what they want or let alone who they are. If you are one of these people, it’s not too late. Today you can start to live your life being honest.

Tools:

Stop: lying to yourself and others

Look: at your life right now and choose to change

Listen: to your heart and you will succeed!

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT “THE UNPLANNED”

by Eric Munter

Yesterday, the unplanned happened. I biked over to a friend’s house where I helped shutter and prepare for South Florida’s annual (and dreaded) hurricane season. As I planned to bike back to my place, my bike decided to throw a wrench into my agenda by having a tire go flat and a brake – uh, break.

Fortunately, I live less than five miles from my friend’s place and (not to toot my own horn here, but) I’ve run a marathon. So making the trek back home wasn’t the biggest of concerns.

My initial thought centered on the amount of time that was going to be “wasted” by this unplanned diversion. I was planning on getting back home at a reasonable hour to get some work done, do a light workout and then settle in for game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals (yes, I managed to squeeze in my obligatory hockey reference). But sometimes when you make plans in life, life decides to flex its sense of humor muscles and override them.

When this happens, you just have to roll with the punches and make the best of the situation. I ended up having a WONDERFUL walk home. I got to spend nearly two hours with myself outdoors, breathing fresh air, feeling the sun beaming down – and it was great! It was just me and my thoughts. I sometimes forget how great it is having those prolonged, quiet moments alone with yourself where you let your mind go wild.

My “unplanned” walk turned into a very positive and energizing experience that has me pumped up, even a full day later. Sometimes when things don’t go the way you expect, you end up with a gifted experience – just so long as you look at things with a positive attitude and make the best of whatever situation you find yourself in.

FRUSTRATED

by Alexa Oliva

This has been the most trying year of my life. I have had thoughts of am I going to make it or do I even want to make it. When you put yourself out in front of the world to see, you put yourself in front of yourself and reflect.

And there behind my dilemma the eternal self-doubt. Am I doing the right thing, have I made the best choices for me, what can I do to make it better, is this the time where you give up, where have my friends gone, am I neglecting my current friends, am I being a good parent, daughter, wife, etc.

I wish I could find the answers and stop the self-doubt, so then I tell myself it’s just you being human. It’s so hard to think I’m just human when I’ve been running around like super women for so long. But I guess this is what aging does.

I am so ready for the next chapter of my life. Signing out frustrated, but I will not give up.
